The MiraCosta Horticulture Club was organized in 1988 and draws it members mostly from the Oceanside/Vista area, but we have members from the surrounding areas, including Carlsbad, Encinitas, San Marcos, and Escondido.
We are a 501c3 not for profit organization. Though we are not directly affiliated with MiraCosta College in Oceanside, the majority of our fundraising efforts go to benefit the Horticulture program at the college, primarily as scholarships for the Horticulture students.
We are a member of the California Garden Clubs Inc (CGCI) and the National Garden Clubs Inc. Our membership in these organizations provides resources and opportunities for learning more about gardening, floral arrangement, and community improvement through gardening. We collect donations for Pennies for Pines to support the state program for reforestation of the national forests in California.
We meet on the second Saturday of every month except July and August. Our meetings are most frequently held at the Student Center at Alta Vista Gardens in Brengle Terrace Park in Vista. Please check the Monthly Meetings section for the starting time and location for the meetings. We usually start the General Meeting at 12:20 pm, but occasionally we will have a short workshop on a specific subject that starts earlier.
We also have an Opportunity Drawing at the end of the meeting - extra plants, fruits, etc donated by our members. For a nominal ticket price you may win a plant you've never tried before, but wanted to try. The tickets are open to members and to guests. What a deal!
We have various other activities (tours, plant sales, etc) that will be planned throughout the year. Check back frequently to look for updated postings. If you are interested in our club, look under the MEMBERSHIP section for a form.
